India Today breaks down 5 possible causes of Gujarat’s Morbi bridge tragedy

A snapped cable may have led to the Morbi bridge tragedy that killed 132 people. The incident took place on Sunday evening when a century-old bridge, reportedly not cut out for use for the public, slipped into the Macchu river. The Army, Navy, Air Force, NDRF, and Fire Brigade are conducting search operations in the waterbody. Morbi’s local civic body has said that the company had lapses in their compliances and that the bridge was not fit to carry so many people at once.

While several bodies were fished out from the river after the sun had set, the dead bodies have been sent for post-mortem. Thenjured were rushed to Morbi civil hospital.
